BBHB hit the streets Christmas morning with help from our close friends Angi, Dean and David. We hand delivered 72 meals and care packages to the homeless and hungry in Vancouver and Portland.

We started at Esther Short Park and walked the surrounding blocks of down town Vanvouver….we only found 8 people who accepted our gifts and 2 beds but the people we met were very grateful for the Holiday treats. From there we hit Jantzen Beach, O’Bryant Park, Pioneer Square, the West side of the Burnside Bridge and the Burnside Skate Park.

We could not have done this without your help! A very special thanks to… Traci & Tommy Bentz, Tiffany & Rick Cantonwine, Laurie Cantonwine, Kellie Coughlin, Brea Franck, Angi Janousek, The Jones Family, Trish Michael Moore, David Moodhe Kaydee & Aaron Peterson, Rebecca Phillips, Dean Waldron and One Love Photography by Tara.

Prepping the donations

Posted: December 22, 2011 in Community, homeless, hungry

Today and tomorrow, Hobz and I will be prepping the donations that will be handed out Christmas morning.  All the food is getting packaged in brown paper bags with our logo (image on the left) and then put in military rack sacks for delivery.  The other donations which include; socks, gloves, hats, scarves, toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, little snacks and feminine hygiene products will be packaged in ziplock bags and carried as well.

We have been amazed by the generosity of friends, family and community members… thank you all very much for the support you have given us.

Now….off to the prepping!

And we are in action…

Early December 2011, Hobz came home from work and proposed that we start a charity to feed youth, adults and families in our community who are struggling with homelessness.  Well, we ran with it and by the end of the work day, we had created a name, logo and tag-line.  We had expected to fund the first year completely on our own…handing out 72 “lunch bags” containing an MRE with heater and spork, a bottle of water, fresh fruit, some granola and a large oatmeal cookie.  But as we talked with family and friends and posted our plans on Facebook, the project took a turn.  All of the sudden we had friends talking to their friends and families and people coming out of the woodwork asking if they could help…and this is how we got to where we are now.  Next Friday we will be gathering all the items  people have generously donated to our cause, then Christmas morning we will hit the streets of Vancouver, WA and Portland, OR looking for people in need.

Hobz and I hope to continue this effort – we are exploring ways to start an official charitable organization/group and expand each year with the number of people we can help
